Daily wage laborer’s daughter gets an IES rank

Hailing from Odisha, Aparajita Priyadarshini Behera, the daughter of a daily wage labourer has scored the 13th rank in the UPSC’s IES examination. Despite facing crushing odds, she has emerged victorious and she dedicates her story of success to her father.

The 24 year old is a resident of Mahanangala village in Kendrapara district. She is pursuing her PhD from Jawaharlal University. She gives the credit of her success to her father. She said that her father was a great support by working very hard to help her complete her studies. She added that her father never let her feel the effects of poverty much. She proudly stated that whatever she achieved it is because of her father and she dedicates her all India job to him.

Amulya Kumar Behera, her father is a 50 year old labourer at a fertilizer plant of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO). His work is on a daily pay roll basis. This means it is completely contractual. He earns less than Rs. 10,000 per month. However, despite such low income he cares a lot for the education of his children (one son and two daughters.

Aparajita who achieved this rank, believed in the motto to serve her country honestly.
