73-year-old woman marathon runner
Nowadays, many senior citizens and elderly people are inspiring youth with their amazing activities. They are astonishing with their energy levels as sometimes they can surpass youth with their capabilities and competence. There are many such motivating elderly people in the country.
Here is an instance of an elderly woman from Meghalaya. Kmoin Wahlang, a 73-year-old woman from Meghalaya is one of the oldest women marathon runners in the country.
Wahlang has 12 children and 30 grandchildren. Her fitness and energy levels surprise many sports lovers. While many of her counterparts feel tedious to walk or do even minor activities, she easily finished many marathon events. She participated in Tata Mumbai Marathon in January 2019 and amazed many people including youth.
She finished the 42.195km run in 4 hours 33 minutes and 55 seconds. Out of 520 women runners, she finished the Marathon at 89th position.
Despite most of the participants being younger to her, she could surpass them with her interest and passion.
Mumbai Marathon was her first marathon outside the state. Besides, Wahlang does not familiar with any other language except her mother tongue. However, she finished it without any difficulty. She maintained consistency throughout her race and completed it with ease.
Wahlang started running two decades ago. At that time, she was suffering from severe stomach issues after the birth of her last child. Doctors advised her to do exercise to combat the problem. She chose walking initially and gradually started running to be fit and solve health issues.
She slowly started participating in running marathons. She took part in many marathons in her home state, Meghalaya. Before participating in the Tata Marathon, she finished the 45km run in the Mawkyrwat Ultra Marathon. Now, she became a role model for many people across the country.
