Vapra Composting offers effective waste composting solutions
Waste segregation, a fundamental step in environmental protection, often eludes many people.
Despite the intentions of several eco-conscious people, waste often gets mixed during collection, rendering their efforts futile.
Recognizing this problem, Pavani Lolla wishes to provide an effective solution.
An electronics engineer with a passion for entrepreneurship and eco-friendly solutions, she founded Future Step.
This innovative company specializes in crafting machines that not only compost organic waste but also aid in home waste segregation.
Pavani’s inspiration stemmed from her experiences as a student involved in an eco-club, raising awareness about waste segregation in villages.
Her journey took a pivotal turn when she joined the Technology Entrepreneurship Programme at ISB after completing her MBA.
Through the program, she honed her skills in product prototyping and realized that nearly 60 per cent of household waste is organic and compostable.
In collaboration with Siddhesh Sakore, who runs an NGO in Pune, Pavani embarked on a mission to tackle this issue.
After multiple iterations, they developed a portable composting machine designed for home use, capable of composting organic waste, including food and vegetable scraps.
To address concerns about odour, the startup introduced the Vapra composting mix, a reusable solution that minimizes unpleasant smells. With this mix and the machine, households can compost waste in just seven days, significantly faster than the conventional 30-45 days.
Future Step’s product range includes the Vapra home composting kit, priced at approximately ₹3,500, and the Vapra plant pit composter, situated at the Uppal vegetable market.
As part of a pilot project, they partnered with the GHMC to establish the plant pit composter at the market, enabling the composting of vegetable waste.
Beyond this, Future Step has plans to introduce the Vapra Society Composter, which will be installed in large gated communities and societies in the coming months.
Since its inception in November 2020, the startup has been actively addressing waste management challenges.
Their vision includes expanding plant pit composters and society composters in Telangana, with ambitions to extend their impact to other states.
Pavana recently pitched her idea on the “Aha – Nenu Super Woman” show. The startup got funds from Angel Investors.
Future Step, led by Pavani Lolla and Siddhesh Sakore is addressing the pressing issue of waste segregation. In addition, the startup also revolutionizing the way households and communities compost organic waste.
Their innovative solutions not only benefit the environment but also contribute to cleaner, healthier living spaces for everyone.
