GramCover – An Insurance Aggregator Platform
Natural calamities affect agriculture and farmers a lot. The floods alone contributed to a loss of 8.5 percent of crops during 2017 and 2019. As a result, farmers lost crores of rupees.
Loss of crops and money are the major leading causes of farmers’ suicides in the country. Due to a lack of awareness of insurance, they do not get cover from insurance companies.
This made Jatin Singh think about the solution. He along with Dhyanesh Bhatt, founded GramCover, an insurance aggregator platform for farmers and rural India.
Before launching GramCover, Jatin Singh established Skymet, an agricultural weather risk management, and data company.
Skymet paved the way for launching his second venture as he understood the adverse effects of weather and climate on agriculture.
GramCover partnered with many insurers like LIC, ICICI Lombard, GIC Re, Bajaj Allianz, Royal Sundaram, HDFC ERGO, Aviva, and many more. With the help of these insurers, the startup offers insurance for life, health, livestock, crops, and motor. Thus, GramCovers works as an insurance aggregator platform for rural customers. Their insurance products start from ₹35.
GramCover works in more than 3,000 villages across 28 districts. Currently, it has operations in different states like Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Orissa, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.
GramCover offers customized and affordable insurance policies for farmers through its website. Farmers can also buy at its point-of-sale partner network.
GramCover is easy to use as the platform is user-friendly. Farmers can receive insurance policies instantly. As it is designed for rural customers, it supports several premium collections.
The startup receives most of the revenue from premiums. It also earns through policies it underwrites. The insurers pay 10 to 16.5 percent brokerage to the startup for its service.
