Moomba transforms agriculture through innovation
Startups are becoming game-changers in agriculture, introducing innovative solutions to challenges faced by farmers.
One standout example is Moomba, a trailblazing venture in the processing and sale of dried onions, tomatoes, and other agricultural products.
Moomba was founded by seven Mumbai-based students during their college years. It has grown into a powerhouse in the industry, achieving an impressive business valuation of ₹200 crores.
Moomba’s journey began with a shared goal among seven visionaries to redefine food processing in India.
Extensive research from 2014 to 2018 across colleges set the stage for their venture.
Officially established in 2019 as S4S Technologies, the company focuses on creating solutions that connect farmers with innovative methods to enhance agricultural value.
A key part of their strategy involves empowering women farmers, who act as procurement agents and form the backbone of their supply chain.
What sets Moomba apart is its focus on preserving the nutritional value of agricultural produce.
Using an advanced technology called the Solar Conduction Dryer, the company processes crops without exposing them to the high temperatures typical of traditional methods.
This approach ensures products maintain their nutrients, achieve extended shelf life, and deliver superior quality.
Moomba’s production begins with women farmers sourcing fresh crops from their communities.
At the Procurement Centre in Mumbai, produce like onions are washed and then dehydrated using the Solar Conduction Dryer.
This process transforms fresh produce into powders while maintaining rigorous quality standards through moisture testing and food safety protocols.
The finished products are then carefully packaged and distributed to markets nationwide.
With India’s food processing market valued at $200 billion, Moomba has carved a significant niche, generating ₹200 crores in annual revenue.
The company works with over 300,000 farmers and employs 3,000 women across various states. These include Maharashtra, Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
By blending innovation with empowerment, Moomba not only redefines food processing but also fosters economic growth and uplifts farming communities.
Moomba’s success story showcases the transformative power of startups in revolutionizing agriculture, creating sustainable solutions, and driving socio-economic change.
