X’s new adult content policy
Now users can post adult content on X, subject to certain guidelines. In a significant policy update, Elon Musk-owned social media platform X (formerly Twitter) now permits users to share adult content under specific rules. This move aims to balance freedom of expression with safety.
Users can share consensually produced adult content if it is properly labelled and not prominently displayed.
The update replaces X’s former ‘Sensitive Media and Violent Speech’ policies.
According to the new guidelines, sexual expression is considered a legitimate form of artistic expression.
Users are encouraged to engage with and create content that reflects their beliefs and desires.
For regular posters of adult content, X mandates adjusting media settings to place content behind a warning.
This ensures other users must acknowledge the warning before viewing. Failure to label posts appropriately will result in X adjusting the account settings automatically.
The policy includes strict restrictions to protect minors and those who opt out of viewing adult content.
X prohibits material that promotes exploitation, non-consent, or harm to minors. Moreover, such content cannot be displayed in profile photos or banners.
Users without a birth date on their profiles and underage users will be unable to view marked content.
Adult content is defined as any material depicting nudity or sexual behaviour intended to cause sexual arousal.
This includes both real and AI-generated content, such as cartoons, hentai, or anime. Examples range from full or partial nudity to explicit or implied sexual acts.
To maintain the platform’s safety, users can report unmarked content or violations through an in-app reporting feature. If content is mistakenly flagged, users can appeal the decision to X.
This policy underscores X’s commitment to balancing creative freedom with responsible content sharing.
By enforcing these guidelines, X emphasizes that it aims to create a safe and inclusive environment for all users.
