Nagaland blocks internet services
The Nagaland government blocked all web and mobile information services within the state for forty-eight hours from Sabbatum night to prevent folks from current pictures and videos of the execution of Syed Sarif alias Farid Khan in Dimapur.
An obligatory curfew was set in Dimapur city from 3 pm on Sunday until 12 midnight following rumours that some folks were designing a visible light march at the town’s town Tower within the evening whererKhan was lynched.
After videos associated with the murder went viral, the government-ordered mobile service suppliers to dam SMS/MMS services, and came out with a notification in local newspapers on Sunday. Police aforementioned the step was taken as a safety measure to contain tension.
“We have asked service providers to block all internet and mobile data services from 6 pm on Saturday for 48 hours,” Nagaland Police Dimapur range IGP Wabang Jamir said. “We want to stop the circulation of the images and videos of the lynching, as these might escalate tensions.”
Police have released a statement that the medical examination of survivor confirmed that she was raped. At least 22 people were arrested in connection with the lynching.
