Veteran actress Sridevi passed away at the age of 54 leaving her fans in deep mourning.
Here are some lesser-known facts about the legendary actress.
- Sridevi’s real name is Sree Amman Ayyapan Yanger. She was born in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu.
- Her father was a lawyer. Her mother was from Tirupathi, Andhra Pradesh.
- Sridevi’s mother tongue is Tamil. She started her career at the age of four by acting in a devotional film, Thunaivan.
- She acted in 300 films including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages.
- She refused to act in Jurassic park due to her busy schedule in Bollywood.
- Sridevi could not speak Hindi when she first stepped in the industry. At that time, actress Naaz used to dub for her in the movies, and even Rekha dubbed for her in Aakhri Rasta.
- Chandini was the first Hindi film in which Sridevi dubbed her own dialogues.
- Sridevi was the highest paid actress in Hindi films during the period of 1985 to 1992.
- Sridevi played a step mother’s role for Rajnikanth in a Tamil movie “Moondru Mudichu”. At that time, she was just 13-year-old.
- She had excellent dedication and commitment to her work. Here is an example of it. She finished shooting for the song, Na Jaane Kaha Se Aayi in Chalbaaz despite suffering from high fever.
- She sang playback for three Hindi films and one Telugu film. They are Chadini, Sadma and Garajna (Hindi), and Kshnakshanam (Telugu).
- She is fluent in several languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English.
- Jaya Prada was considered as the strongest competitor for Sridevi at that time. Both have strong competition.
- Jaya Prada was considered to act in Nagina initially, but due to fear of snakes, she rejected the role. And the director consulted Sridevi who accepted the role. This film was a huge success.
- She was honoured with Padmasri in 2013 by the Indian government. She won 5 Filmfare awards for the best actress in a leading role.
