How to renew your Driving License online?
A driving license (DL) is valid for 20 years, or till the holder turns 50 years, whichever is earlier. This is the same in all states and UTs in India.
You have one year to renew your DL after it expires. If you do not renew within the period, you will have to go through the entire process, starting from getting a learning license.
Now, due to the pandemic condition, many state governments and UTs have been imposing lockdown and restrictions. In this context, you cannot visit the RT office for renewing your DL.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) issued a notification for availing various types of services related to driving license through Aadhhaar authentication. Renewal of license is one among them. So, now, you can renew your driving license from your home at your convenience.
You have to apply for the renewal. If you submit your application before its expiry or within 30 days of the expiry, the renewal will be made from the date of its expiry.
On the other hand, if the application is made after 30 days of the expiry of the license, then the renewal will be effective from the date of receipt of the application. You have to pay a fee of ₹30 for that.
Visit the website of Parivahan Sewa – https://parivahan.gov.in/.
Click on online services and select driving license-related services from the drop-down menu.
Then you have to select your state. After selecting your state, you will be redirected to a new page. Select the ‘Apply for DL Renewal’ option from the list.
Fill in the application as per the specified instructions. Then upload the required documents. Certain states ask to upload photo and signature.
Make the payment and verify the payment status. Take a printout of this copy for future references.
