Admission rules for primary classes in Delhi
To fill vacant seats for preprimary and primary classes for the academic year 2022-23, the Delhi government issued guidelines.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) issued an order. In that order, it stated that admissions for Classes 2 to Class 5 for the academic year 2022-23 would be started from May 11 onwards.
Students would be given admission on a first-come, first-served basis. It also stated that schools should not deny admission to orphans, migrants, and divyang.
They should not deny the admission of students who were kept under long absence if approached the school for readmission. Schools shall consider their request for readmission.
The maximum number of students allowed for preprimary and primary sections is 40 students. Students of Sarvodaya Vidyalayas of DoE, if applied on a transfer basis should be given priority.
In addition to that, schools shall consider giving admission to the students in their vicinity. Children living one kilometre from the school will be given priority.
If the school is not in their surrounding area, children living within three kilometres can apply for admission.
The information regarding vacant seats in a school should be circulated among the public through School Management Committee (SMC) members and School Mitras (school friends).
Parents will be the members of SMC members and School Mitras. The Delhi government earlier launched the Parents’ Outreach Program to connect parents and schools for the better education of children.
The DoE also ordered that no seat in primary classes should remain vacant. Hence, all schools should maintain a waiting list of students for the entire year. Thus it will be easier for them to fill vacant seats immediately.
The DoE declared the result for admission of students belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS). The first merit list is available on its website. The age criteria for EWS admission are 3-5 years for preschool children, 4-6 years for preprimary children and 5-7 years for Class 1.
