Mahindra’s affordable ventilator
In the current crisis, corporate entities are also joining the national efforts. Many entities are trying to design various essential tools, utilizing their R&D.
There is a scarce of ventilators in the country. As ventilators are essential in part of COVID-19 treatment, many are trying to design them.
Mahindra group is one among them that wants to design indigenous ventilators at an affordable price. An in-house team from Mahindra & Mahindra is developing a respiratory device, ventilator.
This automated version of the Ambu bag has been designed by the team. Mahindra’s teams from Igatpuri and Mumbai plants designed the ventilator prototype within 48 hours.
They started testing for the prototype. It will be made available for manufacturing to all after it passes the test phase.
The prototype is demonstrated. It has a motor to pump air at different speeds using the speed control switch. The device has a potentiometer to control the speed of the motor.
The machine has a knob to increase the speed from 0 to 30 breathes per minute. The air that is being pumped can also be controlled.
A handheld pendant is attached for the patient. It has an emergency stop button and a ‘doctor’s call button’.
The device can also work manually. It has an in-built logic to report the malfunctioning of the device. It has a set-off an alarm to intimate the attendant to attend the patient immediately in the event of a malfunction.
Though the prototype is ready, it has to be packaged by the company. After that, it will be made available for manufacturing.
It would be a great tool to fight against COVID-19. A cheaper version of the ventilator is certainly revolutionary and beneficial to the healthcare sector.
