Bione launches At-home testing kits for COVID-19 | Fusion - WeRIndia

Testing kits are crucial with the COVID-19 pandemic. Several companies are designing testing kits to meet the growing demand in the country.

Bengaluru based startup, Bione launched at-home testing kits for COVID-19.

These kits are the first rapid at-home kits in the country.

They are easy to use. The test kits have been approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) and are priced between ₹2,000 – ₹3,000.

It started selling kits on its website claiming that it had approval from the medical regulatory authorities.

It said that it has a wholesale license from assistant drug controller and licensing authority at the Drug Control Department in Bengaluru.

The users need to clean their finger with an alcohol swab before while using the kit and use the provided lancet to finger-prick.

Bione says that the test kits will have the cartridge which can read the results from the blood sample within 10 minutes.

It says the test kits can be received within a couple days after placing the order. The company says it can supply 20,000 kits per week.

CE and FDA approved partners sourced the kits as per the company. Bione says these kits will reduce the burden on health staff as they can be at home safely and efficiently used.

The time to get results is also less than that of other tests and, thus, these kits are revolutionary in fighting against COVID-19.

However, Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) issued a public notice warning on the use of at-home coronavirus testing kits.

Drug Controller General of India, CDSCO says that Bione has been approved by the regulator to sell the testing kits.

People should have to follow the advice of the ICMR on testing protocols and not any other methods.

Bione removed the rapid testing kit from its website after the public notice.
