AirOK Vistar: Smart solution to India’s indoor air crisis
Indoor air pollution is becoming a serious health concern, often more harmful than outdoor pollution.
Since pollutants remain trapped inside enclosed spaces, they accumulate and reach dangerous levels. As a result, people face rising cases of allergies, asthma, and respiratory issues.
Addressing this challenge, AirOK has developed an innovative solution. Its flagship product, Vistar, is positioned as India’s first smart air purifier designed for both residential and commercial use.
The startup, incubated at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, spent nearly three years refining this technology.
Initially focused on air quality monitoring, the team later shifted to air purification. Consequently, they built a system that not only cleans the air but also tracks pollution levels in real time.
Vistar comes equipped with modern features such as Wi-Fi connectivity, touch controls, and mobile-based remote monitoring. It can automatically adjust fan speed depending on pollutant concentration.
One of its standout features is the patented EGAPA filter technology. This system, known as the Effective Granular Absorption Particulate Arrester, uses a dual-layer filtration process.
Therefore, it can capture particles as small as 0.3 microns, including bacteria, volatile compounds, and pet dander.
Moreover, the filter lasts up to one year, which is nearly twice the lifespan of many conventional purifiers.
The Vistar 550 model covers an area of 550 square feet, making it suitable for homes as well as hospitals, restaurants, and commercial spaces.
Priced at ₹20,000, it also offers cost efficiency. The replacement filter costs around ₹1,200, ensuring low maintenance over time.
Importantly, the product has received support from industry players. The SAR Group, known for its Livpure brand, has invested ₹12 crore in AirOK and will assist in distribution. This backing strengthens the startup’s market reach.
While air purifiers alone cannot solve pollution, they offer immediate relief indoors.
Additionally, by displaying real-time pollution data, Vistar encourages users to stay informed.
In the long run, such awareness could drive broader action toward cleaner air.
