Woman minister marries a farmer in Kerala
Jayalakshmi, the lone lady minister in the Congress led UDF government in Kerala has married a farmer in a traditional Hindu tribal wedding on Sunday. The wedding of the minister who handles Welfare and Scheduled tribes was a much talked about affair.
It was held at her ancestral home at Mambayil near Valadu in Waynad. Some of the guests include Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan and her cabinet colleagues.
After the traditional ‘Kurichiya’ tribal rituals in the morning, Jayalakshmi, dressed in a green silk saree, touched the feet of both Chandy and Achuthanandan and took their blessings.
CA Anilkumar, the groom wore a white shirt and ‘mundu’ and tied a mangalasutra around her neck. They both exchanged jasmine garlands as they received the blessings of their parents and relatives. This wedding has become a major in the northern Kerala district and was attended by several minister including Ramesh Chennithala, KC Joseph and Speaker N Sakthan among those present.
This hyped event was also telecast live by many regional television channels as this is the first wedding of a minister held recently. Jayalakshmi, is a first time MLA of Congress and was elected to Assembly from Mananthavady (SC) segment. She is in her thirties.
