TN petrol pump offers free fuel for reciting Thirukkural couplets
To promote the reading practice and learning capability among children, this Tamil Nadu petrol pump took a novel initiative. At the same time, this initiative also provides relief to vehicle owners.
A petrol pump, Valluvar Agency in Nagampalli in Karur district, Tamil Nadu, introduced an offer of providing free petrol to the parents of children who can recite couplets of Thirukkural.
Thirukkural is a classic Tamil language text. It is also known as Kural.
It consists of 1,330 short couplets. Each couplet has seven words.
If a child recites 10 couplets of Thirukkural, then half-a-litre petrol will be provided for free. If a child can recite 20 couplets, then one-litre petrol will be offered for free.
Valluvar Agency launched this offer on January 16 to mark Thiruvalluvar Day. The offer is valid till April 20, 2021.
Children studying Class 1 to 12 can use this offer. They can accompany their parents to the petrol pump and should submit the couplets in writing to participate in the contest. After that, they should recite the couplets.
One can use this offer multiple times. But the couplets should be different every time of utilizing the offer.
K Senguttuvan, the owner of the petrol pump, said that the offer was launched to motivate children to understand the importance of Thirukkural. He added that students need some encouragement for this. Hence, the petrol pump launched this offer. This 62-year-old believes that this initiative will promote reading habit and improve focus among children.
Several children used this opportunity and their parents were happy about their performance.
As the fuel prices are skyrocketing in the country, this offer provides relief to parents of children who can recite couplets.
