This Indian village is the richest in Asia
In the scenic state of Himachal Pradesh, there exists a village known as Madavag, which has gained worldwide recognition as the ‘Apple State.’
This reputation can be attributed to the remarkable variety of apples, called Safarchand.
Consequently, Madavag village, situated in the Choupal region of Shimla district, has emerged as the wealthiest village in Asia, with every apple farming family becoming millionaires.
The average annual income of these families ranges between 35 to 80 lakhs of rupees, depending on the apple crop and price fluctuations.
With over 225 families residing in Madavag, the orchard owners collectively sell apples worth an astounding average of ₹150 to ₹175 crores per year.
Before Madavag, it was Kyari village in Shimla district that held the prestigious title of being the richest village in Asia due to its apple cultivation.
However, Madavag has now surpassed Kyari in terms of prosperity and recognition. Moreover, Dasholi village, also located in Madavag, has begun to make a name for itself in apple production within the state.
Approximately 12 to 13 families in Dasholi have ventured into producing the finest quality apples in the country.
Even the small-scale gardeners in Dasholi yield an impressive range of 700 to 1000 boxes of apples, while the larger orchard owners produce between 12,000 to 15,000 boxes.
One notable aspect of apple cultivation in Dasholi is the altitude at which the orchards are situated, ranging between 8000 to 8500 feet. This elevation is deemed ideal for apple farming, contributing to the superior quality of the fruit.
Madavag village itself is located 90 km away from Shimla, falling under the Chaupal tehsil of the Shimla district. The village boasts a population of over 2200, and its residents have constructed luxurious houses. Advanced agricultural technologies are employed in Madavag to enhance apple cultivation and ensure maximum productivity.
Furthermore, Madavag and Dasholi apples have outshone the renowned produce from Jammu and Kashmir, including the well-regarded Kinnore apples.
Such is the demand for these exceptional apples that they are highly sought after not only in the state and throughout the country. In addition, these apples have a good demand in foreign markets as well.
