Know about contestants in Lok Sabha elections
Six out of seven phases of Lok Sabha elections have been finished. The last phase of the elections would be held on May 19.

Here are certain things to know about the contestants in Lok Sabha elections 2019:
- Overall, 7,928 candidates contested the Lok Sabha elections 2019. Among them, 1,500 have declared pending criminal cases against them. It is almost 19 per cent and has increased compared to past elections. The percentage of candidates who had declared criminal cases against them in 2009 and 2014 lections was 15 per cent and 17 per cent respectively.
- Out of them, 1070 i.e. 13 per cent of candidates that contested in the Lok Sabha 2019 elections had declared serious criminal cases against them. These include murder, rape, crimes against women, attempt to murder, and kidnapping.
- 2297 candidates, i.e. 29 per cent of the contested candidates in the Lok Sabha elections 2019 are crorepatis. The percentage of crorepatis in 2009 elections and 2014 elections was 16 per cent and 27 per cent respectively.
- The average assets per candidates who contested in the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 is ₹4.14 Crore.
- The party-wise average assets are highest for INC candidates with ₹19.92 Crores followed by BJP with average assets of ₹13.37 Crores.
- The age of 62 per cent of contested candidates is between 25 and 50 years, 37 per cent of candidates are aged between 51 and 80 years.
- 35 candidates had not disclosed their age details. 18 candidates are aged above 80 years whereas 2 candidates are below the age of 25 years.
- 0nly 9 per cent of women contested in the Lok Sabha elections 2019. It was 8 per cent in 2014 elections and 7 per cent in 2009 elections.
