Singotam poised to become a major pilgrimage & tourist destination

Temple towns often evolve into vibrant cultural hubs, and Singotam in the Mahbubnagar district is now moving in that direction.

The historic settlement, located about 100 kilometres from the district headquarters near Kollapur mandal, is gaining attention for its religious heritage and natural beauty.

Singotam, also known as Singapatnam, houses the revered Sri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy temple.

The Jetaprolu Samsthana Kings of the Surabhi dynasty built this 400-year-old temple on the banks of Singasamudram, a massive reservoir spread across more than ten kilometres.

Additionally, the Kalwakurthy lift irrigation project revitalised this waterbody.

The reservoir now supplies drinking water to over 100 nearby villages and irrigates more than 5,000 acres of farmland.

Additionally, the region features Ratnagiri, a hillock crowned by the Sri Ratna Laxmi Temple.

Queen Surabhi Venkata Ratnamambha built this temple in 1935. Each year, nearly 30,000 to 50,000 pilgrims arrive from states across South India.

The hillock rises about 100 metres and provides a scenic view of the surrounding landscape.

The State government has recognised Singotam’s tourism potential. It has sanctioned ₹8–12 crore for developing roads, guest facilities, drinking water systems, and other amenities.

According to temple priests, improved road access is expected to bring a steady flow of visitors and boost local development. The nearby Yettam Gattu hill also adds to the area’s appeal.

Several important temples in Kollapur and Jetaprolu trace their origins to the Surabhi dynasty.

These include the Madana Gopala Swamy Temple, the Sita Rama Laxmana Temple, and the twin shrines at Singotam.

The dynasty’s lineage began with Datta Putra and continued through Singama Naidu, Bhoopala Naidu, and Rani Ratnamambha.

Today, Surabi Venkata Balaaditya Laxmana Rao oversees the management of these heritage temples.

Furthermore, the Telangana government’s allocation of ₹23 crore helped enhance tourism in Kollapur.

The plan includes building cottages, widening approach roads, and launching a ferry service at Somasila.

With these initiatives, Singotam is set to emerge as a prominent pilgrimage and tourist destination in the region.
