Government says 69 lakh toilets built in rural areas
It seems that the initiation of government has succeeded in reaching its target to end the open defecation by October 2019.
The government data reveals that the construction of individual toilets have increased in villages.
Due to the introduction of Swacch Bharat Mission, the usage of individual toilets has been increased in rural areas and villages.
This is possible by constructing individual toilets.
About 69 lakh toilets were constructed in the past 10 months compared to 1.04 crore toilets that were built between April 2012 and October 2014 under Nirmal Bharat Abhiyaan, a previous avatar of Swacch Bharat Mission.
Out of this, 45.6 lakh individual household latrines were built in 2012-13 and 49.7 lakh were built in 2013-14.
Approximately 17.3 lakh toilets have been constructed in the first four months of the last fiscal year and more than eight lakh toilets were built in the last fiscal year.
The reason for the increase of construction of individual toilets is the improved awareness among citizens on the public defecation in addition to the assistance of Government. Furthermore, Panchayats are showing great interest in implementing the scheme.
People are taking great steps to improve their complete sanitation in their surroundings.
For instance, in some rural areas, people are building toilets in such a way that they can be used by outsiders as well when they are attending to marriage parties or any such get together.
