As announced by the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal earlier, free bus ride scheme for women started yesterday.

To empower women and improve their role in the economy, the Delhi government announced free bus ride scheme for women.

The program was started on Bhai Dhooj as a gift from the brother. As part of the free ride scheme, women will be given a pink ticket in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses. The Delhi government would reimburse transporters as per the number of pink tickets issued.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia congratulated Delhi women on Twitter after launching the free ride scheme.

The Delhi government issued a notification on Monday regarding the implementation of the free-ride scheme from Tuesday.

Kejriwal in his Independence Day speech said free-ride scheme for women in both DTC and cluster buses would begin from October 29, i.e. on ‘Bhai Dooj’.

As per the statement, the scheme was started hoping to improve women’s role in the economy of the national capital.

Before that, the Delhi cabinet gave in-principle approval to the scheme on August 29. As per this approval, all women can avail free bus ride facility, but the female employees of the city government will have to give up their transport allowance to utilize the scheme.

These include the employees of the Delhi government, local bodies and their undertakings. If they want to avail a free ride in DTC and cluster buses, they shall not be entitled to transport allowance.

Women can travel in all buses including the services of Noida-NCR, airport and other special services operated by the DTC and cluster scheme operators.

As per the official sources, more than 45 lakh passengers travel in public buses each day in Delhi.
