TN Government announces awards in Kalam’s name

Due to extensive demands from several people to preserve inheritance of deceased leader Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Tamil Nadu government on Friday stated that an award would be constituted in his name. Furthermore, his birthday October 15 would be observed as “Youth Renaissance Day” by TN government.

For this, the instructions were given by the Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, according to her words. Starting from this year, the award will be given to those who attempt to promote scientific growth, humanities and students’ welfare from the state. This will be given during Independence Day each year. She added that it was consistent with the policy of her government to create a ‘Strong India and Resourceful Tamil Nadu’.

Saying Dr Kalam is a multi-faceted personality and a Nuclear Hero, Jayalalithaa also stated that the award comprises of a gold medal of eight gram, cash of Rs 5 lakh and a citation. Dr Kalam’s birthday will be observed as ‘Youth Renaissance Day’. In this regard, the CM recalled the contributions of Dr Kalam towards the growth of country and his motivation to encourage youth. It is also known from her words that the Aurangzeb Road in Delhi may be renamed as APJ Abdul Kalam Marg.

The Andhra Pradesh state government has also decided to name a technology institute after Dr Kalam and install his statue at Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur.
