States take tough decisions against people reluctant to COVID-19 vaccine

In the wake of the identification of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron, many nations imposed travel restrictions, especially on international travellers arriving in their countries. Besides, countries are taking tough decisions against people who have not taken the COVID-19 vaccine. This is due to the warning of experts that the mutation of the virus was the result of vaccine inequality.

Concerning its population, India’s vaccine coverage is low compared to the global average. While the global average is 96 doses per 100 individuals, India’s coverage was 81 per 100 as of November 16, 2021. Also, only 27 per cent of India’s population has been fully vaccinated, while 41 per cent of the global population received both doses of the vaccine.

In this context, several states took tough decisions against people who are reluctant to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

Kerala government decided not to provide free COVID treatment to people who are reluctant to get the vaccine.

The Technical Advisory Committee of Karnataka suggested the state government to restrict unvaccinated people from getting benefits from the government like ration and pension. In addition to that, these people will not be allowed to use public transport, metro trains, hotels, cinema halls, gardens, libraries, and exhibitions as per the suggestions of this committee.

In Maharashtra, Thane Corporation decided not to allow unvaccinated people to board buses of Thane corporation. Initially, people with single doses will be allowed, however, later, only fully vaccinated people will be allowed to travel.

In Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh, people who are reluctant to get the COVID-19 vaccine will not be allowed to buy liquor, as the district excise office announced to sell the liquor only to fully vaccinated people.
