Saina Nehwal – The first Indian woman to become world No.1
Badminton champion Saina Nehwal wins the title of world No.1. She is the first Indian woman to win this title. After Team India’s loss in the cricket world cup, Nehwal’s win is definitely something that can make us proud.
Saina stated that “I still can’t believe it. I would like to see my name on the rankings list that will be announced next Thursday.”
She had defeated Yui Hashimoto of Japan 21-15, 21-11 in an exceedingly new ‘smashing’ game that she is perfecting recently at the Prakash Padukone badminton Academy in Bangalore. Former national champion Vimal Kumar is her new career chaperone and in mere seven months, Saina has managed to get the highest rank that Padukone did thirty five years ago after he won the All European country title beating Indonesia’s Liem Swie King.
Even though China is incredibly strong in Badminton, Saina has repeatedly won against top Chinese rivals. Saina vs China matches have become very interest and intense to watch. After such hard work, Nehwal has finally managed to get to the title.
She has won the China Open and Lucknow Open recently. Both Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth won maiden Women’s Singles title and Men’s Singles Title at the India Open Series Badminton Tournament on Sunday at New Delhi.
