PM Modi meets world leaders in Japan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Japan today for the G20 Summit. He would attend several meetings and meet with the world leaders.

PM was welcomed by the Indian community at the Kansai International Airport, Japan in a grand manner. They chanted his name, ‘Modi, Modi’ while he was arriving.

The US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin are some important leaders among the others to whom the PM will be meeting.

This is the sixth G20 Summit of PM Modi. The summit is being held at Osaka from June 27 to 29.

19 countries are participating along with the European Union (EU) in this summit. The theme of the summit is human-centred future society.

The G20 members will interact and communicate face-to-face on various economic and financial issues like global development, climate changes, migration, health, counter-terrorism etc.

Prime Minister in his departure statement said the prime issues in his agenda would be women empowerment, artificial intelligence and terrorism.

The PM added said the summit is an important opportunity to restate and strengthen the strong support of the county to reformed multilateralism, which is essential to keep up the rule-based international order in the modern world.

The summit is a good platform to share the developmental experience of the country over the last five years.

PM Modi said the two-day Osaka summit would also be a key stepping stone for India for hosting the G20 summit in 2022 as India will be celebrating its 75th anniversary Independence Day.

He also said that he is looking forward to engaging with major global partner countries to discuss the issues that have bilateral as well as global significance.

Former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu will be India’s Sherpa at the G20 summit.
