Maha government approves new policy for shops
From next week, eateries, malls and multiplexes in Maharashtra can remain open round the clock. The Maharashtra government approved Mumbai 24 hours policy yesterday allowing all these establishments to remain open 24 hours from January 27.
Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray said that the decision of the government would help shops to generate more revenue. It also helps generate more jobs.
However, the opening and closing can be the discretion of the shops. If anyone thinks that there is no need to open in the night, he can do so since it is not mandatory.
This new policy would help businesses that feel they can do more business if they open their establishment in the nights also.
He said that shops, eateries and theatres in malls and mill compounds that are in non-residential areas will be allowed to remain open in the first phase.
A lane will be opened in the Bandra-Kurla Complex and Nariman Point near NCPA for food trucks.
Food inspectors will monitor for proper implementation of rules including solid waste management, decibel limits etc. If they found that the rules are violated, a lifetime ban will be implemented.
The minister also felt that the policy would help police focus only on law and order as there would be no need to check if any shops remained open.
However, pubs and bars will be closed as usual since there is no change in Excise rules. People can enjoy food, shop and watch movies in the night as per their desire and thus Mumbai will become a ‘24×7 functional city’.
Several people work in the nights and tourists travel on the roads. It would be difficult for them if they find no food for them in the nights. That’s why the government decided to bring the new policy.
