Indian Army & Air Force set to get enhanced BrahMos missiles
The Indian Army and the Indian Air Force (IAF) will soon enhance their firepower.
They will acquire advanced land-attack BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. These missiles can strike targets at ranges of 800 km and beyond.
This move is expected to strengthen India’s defence capabilities significantly.
The proposal to procure around 250 of these enhanced missiles has already been approved by the Defence Acquisition Council.
Next, it will be presented to the Cabinet Committee on Security for final approval, according to defence sources.
These upgraded BrahMos missiles will be deployed in both desert and high-altitude areas, expanding their operational versatility.
Previously, the BrahMos missiles had a range of 300 km, but their capabilities have been greatly enhanced.
They can now hit targets at distances of up to 800 km or more. This upgrade marks a major leap in missile technology and will greatly augment India’s ability to neutralize threats from long distances.
Interestingly, this acquisition is a repeat order for the Indian Army and Air Force, following similar missile procurements by the Indian Navy.
The BrahMos missile system has proven to be one of the most successful joint ventures in India’s defence sector.
While most of the production is carried out by Russia, India has been actively working towards indigenizing key components of the missile, with significant progress being made with the help of the private sector.
In addition to bolstering India’s military, the BrahMos missile is also gaining international attention.
It is currently being successfully exported to the Philippines, and several other countries have expressed interest in acquiring it.
Under new leadership, BrahMos Aerospace is also working on developing the BrahMos Next Generation missile, which will be produced in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
The acquisition of the BrahMos missile will not only enhance India’s defence capabilities but also showcase its progress in self-reliance.
As these advancements unfold, India’s defence sector is poised for greater innovation and success, contributing to both national security and international partnerships.
