India loses a gem – Dr Abdul Kalam passes away
The great scientist and former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam passed away on Monday 27, July after he collapsed while giving a lecture in Shillong. He was a popular President especially among the youth. His presidential term was between 2002 and 2007.
The 83-year old genius fell sick while at a function in Shillong and was hurried to the hospital, M Kharkrang, SP Khasi Hills, stated.
The former President collapsed during a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong at around 6.30 pm and was taken to the hospital. The reports from TV earlier had stated that Kalam suffered a massive cardiac arrest at the function at IIM Shillong. Following his collapse he had been admitted to the ICU at the hospital.
Kalam was famous for not only his presidency but also his genius in science. He helped India with many important projects like the Agni missiles. He has been always very encouraging of young people who are interested with the sciences. He gave lectures to many students regarding their importance in shaping the youth. It is quite unfortunate that he collapsed during a lecture at IIM.
Government of India declared seven-day national mourning for the sudden demise of ‘People’s President’. Many educational institutions such as schools, colleges etc. and government institutions were closed on Tuesday.
