India celebrated 72nd Independence Day on August 15, 2018. On this occasion, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on various issues and key development of the county.

PM Modi also announced the prestigious insurance policy Ayushman Bharat or National Health Protection Scheme or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan.

The policy is being called ‘Modi Care’ by the media and citizens and is aimed to cover more than 10 crore families and around 50 crore beneficiaries by providing health cover up to ₹5 lakh per family per year.

Here are some important key highlights of the PM speech:


  • PM said that his government is bringing changes using new technology. The income of farmers will be doubled by 2022 with their ‘Beej Se Bazar Tak’ approach.
  • PM announced that Ayushman Bharat will be rolled out on September 25, on the birth anniversary of Deen Dayal Upadhyay
  • India is the sixth biggest economy in the world today with potential investment opportunities for foreign countries. India’s position changed from ‘Fragile Five’ to is a multi-trillion-dollar investment.
  • The recently concluded monsoon session of Parliament focused on social justice to create an Other Backward Class (OBC) Commission.
  • Indian business sector is talking about reform, perform and transform where it used to talk about policy paralysis.
  • PM also stated that his government wants to put end to the practice of Triple Talaq and ensure equal justice to Muslim women.
  • India will become the fourth nation to send a human by 2022 to the space.
  • Like men, Indian women officers will also get opportunities for permanent commission in short service (SSC).
  • India wants to go in the way showed by Vajpayee Insaniyat, Kashmiriyat and Jhamooriyat for Jammu and Kashmir but not by bullets and abuse.
  • Thirteen crore Mudra loans were provided for small and medium sized business. Among them, four crore people were first time loan-takers.
