Scheduled for October 8, 2023, in New Jersey, the grand inauguration of the world’s largest Hindu temple constructed outside of India marks a significant milestone.

The BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in Robbinsville Township, New Jersey is situated just 60 miles south of Times Square in New York and 180 miles north of Washington DC.

This monumental achievement was brought to life by over 12,500 dedicated volunteers over 12 years from 2011 to 2023.

This majestic Akshardham Temple is an architectural marvel, spanning 183 acres. Its grandeur rivals the world-famous Angkor Wat in Cambodia, making it possibly the second-largest Hindu temple globally.

Designed meticulously by ancient Hindu scriptures, it features a breathtaking array of 10,000 statues.

It has intricate carvings depicting Indian musical instruments and dance forms. Thus, it pays homage to India’s rich cultural heritage.

At the heart of this temple complex stands the Mahamandir, a grand temple paying tribute to Bhagwan Swaminarayan, a revered 19th-century Hindu spiritual leader.

Inspired by the 5th spiritual successor, saint Pramukh Swami Maharaj, construction on the Mahamandir began in 2015.

Its official inauguration, set for October 8, 2023, will be graced by Mahant Swami Maharaj and esteemed dignitaries.

The construction of this sacred structure has been a global endeavor, with European stones sourced and meticulously crafted in India.

Transported to the United States, a diverse group of volunteers, guided by skilled artisans from India, came together to bring this temple to life.

Inside, the temple is adorned with complex stone sculptures and figurines that depict the rich legacy of Indian music and dance. The performing arts, pay tribute to revered sages, saints, and spiritual leaders who have contributed significantly to India and Hinduism.

Notably, the Akshardham Temple in New Delhi, India, presently holds the Guinness World Record as the largest comprehensive Hindu temple within a 100-acre complex.

However, the Akshardham Temple in the United States is poised to surpass its predecessor’s achievements, symbolizing the global reach of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha.

It has around 1,400 temples across various regions, including India, the UK, the US, Canada etc.

This iconic temple in New Jersey is set to become a timeless landmark, celebrating Hindu heritage and culture on a global scale.
