Government accepted OROP | Fusion - WeRIndia

On Saturday, September 5, Ex-servicemen have stated that the government has broadly accepted the concept of “one rank, one pension”. Retired Maj Gen Satbir Singh stated that the defence minister is likely to issue a statement on the OROP. Satbir Sing is a spokesperson of the protesting veterans.

In order to discuss the modalities for the OROP, a delegation of agitating ex-servicemen met with the defence minister.

With their agitation at Jantar Mantar seeking early implementation of OROP entering the 83rd day on Saturday, retired personnel of the armed forces made it clear that they would not compromise on the basic concept of their demand that no senior should get lesser pension than a junior at any time.

It was stated that OROP is also applicable to servicemen who took voluntary retirement and are getting pension along with those getting disability pension. Satbir Singh stated that there is no such thing as VRS in defence services.

The government will soon announce a one rank, one pension package for ex-servicemen personnel that will kick in from July 2014 and use 2013 as the base year for calculations.

Even though military veterans are asking for the pensions to be revised at least once every two years, the government strongly maintained its position on a five year reset clause.
