Executive lounges to be setup by IRCTC
In order to setup executive lounges at 19 stations, IRCTC has floated tenders as part of their plan. These lounges will have airport like facilities for train passengers and they will be available at affordable rates.
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation chairman and Managing Director AK Manocha stated that these lounges will be made with state of the art technology to help train passengers recover from their journey stress. They also make waiting for trains a much peaceful ordeal added AK Manocha.
These new facilities are set to be launched in the following stations: Jaipur, Cantt, New Delhi, Kathgodam, Patna, Sealdah, Vijayawada, Agra Howrah, Bhubaneshwar, Vishakhapatnam, Ahmedabad, Puri, Nagpur, Madurai, Bengaluru, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Lucknow and Gorakhpur.
The tenders for this contract will be finalized by October and these lounges are set to be functional from early next year according to IRCTC MD.
The lounge will have features similar to airports like wash and change, Wi-Fi, Live TV, music channels, buffet services, newspaper/bookstand, luggage racks, shoe shiner, train information system and concierge services for pre-departure and post-arrival assistance to passengers. Passengers can also use credit cards and debit cards for these executive lounges. In a year, plans for these lounges at 30 more stations are likely to come.
