I-Day to be the big event
Central Government plans to celebrate Independence Day as a big event. It is going to be different from the traditional way as it has more than flag hoisting by the PM and his speech and feats of tri-Service guard of honour before.
The armed forces are planning to make band displays and exhibitions in 125 cities and towns across the nation on August 15. It is also proposed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of India’s triumph over Pakistan in the 1965 war even though it is pointed out by some people that this war was more of a standstill and the complete victory that was recorded officially was 1971 war.
Regarding Independence Day celebrations, in the evening there is a full-scale fly-past of fighters and aircraft over the Rajpath just like on the Republic Day parade each year. It is also proposed that an exhibition of heliborne operations with addition and withdrawal of troops on the India Gate lawns will be held.
However, PMO needed more programmes that are people-centric. Hence, it is planned for Army, Navy and IAF to hold band concerts throughout the country. In this context, certain military programmes will be conducted in the parks, beaches and malls of six or seven areas not just in New Delhi but also in 125 places including Port Blair, Jammu, Leh, Amritsar, Bhopal, Gangtok, Chennai and Gandhinagar.
