CoWin app crashes due to server issues
The registration for the third phase of vaccination in the country opened yesterday. The government opened the registration for people aged between 18 and 44 years at 4:00 p.m. via the CoWin portal. However, as the portal opened for registration, it crashed within minutes of opening. It showed ‘server issues’ whenever a user tries to log in.
Several users reported OTP issues also with both CoWin and Aarogya Setu. The OTP was being delayed for many users. Even after entering the OTP, the portal showed the server issues, prompting the users to try later.
As per the report of several users, the CoWin portal remained unresponsive even before the opening of the registration process.
Many users disappointed with the server issues as they could not register for the vaccine.
However, many states said that it is difficult to get the required vaccine doses for all adults with the existing production capacity. They added that either the vaccine manufacturing companies improve the production or the government imports foreign-made vaccines like Sputnik V. As per sources, the first batch of Sputnik V vaccines will be delivered to India from May 1.
Meanwhile, the Serum Institute of India reduced the price of its vaccine, Covishield for states from ₹400 to ₹300 per dose. Many states announced free vaccination to all people in the third phase of vaccination. Hence, the company decided to reduce the price of the vaccine to reduce the burden on the states. They can use these funds to vaccinate more people to save many lives. However, the company did not change the price to private hospitals.
Earlier, the company announced the prices of Covishield as ₹400 per dose for states and ₹600 per dose for private hospitals.
