Central Government employees may get salary hike soon
Due to COVID-19, the central government slashed the Dearness Allowance (DA) of the employees. Before that, the DA for the central government employees and pensioners were being paid at the rate of 21 per cent. However, the government reduced it to 17 per cent due to economic crisis.
The government said that it would be continued till next June, after which, the DA will be hiked. Employees and pensioners will get more pay after the hike.
The government increases the DA of the employees in July every year. For unskilled workers, the DA is increased twice a year to improve their standard of living. However, due to COVID-19 crisis, the Centre decided not to increase the DA this year.
After reducing the DA, the government decided to pay a Diwali bonus during Dussehra to around 30 lakh employees. In addition to that, they were given relief on LTA and LTC. The Centre announced the LTC Cash Voucher Scheme in October to benefit the employees.
As per the scheme, employees can avail LTC cash vouchers to buy goods and services that fall in the category of 12 per cent or more GST.
Meanwhile, several media reports say that around 50 lakh central government employees will get a salary hike by this month-end as per the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission. The decision on salary hike is likely to be taken in the next cabinet meeting.
Besides, the non-gazetted medical staff of Indian Railways will also get a promotion and a salary hike up to ₹21,000.
Similarly, the Delhi government also announced a hike in the monthly DA for various categories of employees like skilled, semi-skilled, unskilled, and other category workers. The revised minimum wages will be applicable from October 1 in all scheduled employments. The pay includes the DA as well.
