Bharat Ratna likely for Vajpayee and Malviya
Central government likely to recommend the names of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and freedom fighter Madan Mohan Malviya for Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of the country. Interestingly both leaders were born on December 25. According to sources, PM Narendra Modi will make an announcement on December 25, the birthday of the veteran BJP leader. It had already been declared by the government to celebrate December 25 as ‘Good Governance Day’.
The Bharat Ratna Award is the highest civilian award which was instituted in 1954 to be given to exceptional service/performance of the highest order irrespective of race, sex, occupation etc. So far, 43 famous men and women have been honoured with this prestigious award.
The senior leader of BJP, Vajpayee is going to celebrate his 90th birth anniversary on December 25. Many BJP leaders feel that Vajpayee should have been bestowed with Bharat Ratna in the tenure of UPA government itself. But the government then ignored his contributions to the nation. Now, in the tenure of BJP it would be reasonable to honour the veteran leader with this prestigious award.
Dr. Madan Mohan Malaviya was a famous freedom fighter and a great congress leader. He was the president of Indian National Congress and one of the founders of Scouting in India. He was the founder of famous Banaras Hindu University.
