Beware of fake website that offers COVID-19 vaccine
As the vaccination drive in the country is going on, many people are waiting for their turn to get it. In this scenario, some fake apps and websites are using their weakness by offering the vaccine for a certain amount.
Recently, the Fact Check Unit of Press Information Bureau (PIB) warned about one such fake website that demands cash from the people to offer COVID-19 vaccine.
While the official website of the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare is ‘https://www.mohfw.gov.in/”, the fake website is ‘mohfw.xyz’. Besides, the website has a similar layout, colours, and content to that of the official website.
The website also displays the number of COVID-19 cases like active, discharged and deaths. It also shows total vaccination numbers on the website. As this impersonate the government website, some people may fall prey to this.
However, the fake website has an additional option for the users – ‘Appointment for vaccination’. This is not available on the government website.
The fake website claims to offer COVID-19 vaccine for ₹4,000 – ₹6,000. Hence, PIB on Twitter warned to be cautious of this website, as it is fake and asked people not to fall prey to such fraudsters.
Meanwhile, more than 70 lakh Indians received vaccination in the country. With this, India became the fastest country to achieve such a huge target in less than a month. While it took 27 days for the US and 48 days for the UK, it just took 26 days for India to achieve the target.
The number of beneficiaries who received vaccination has been increasing. In the last 24 hours, over four lakh people were vaccinated.
As per the report of the Health Ministry, around 65 per cent of registered healthcare workers received the vaccine in 13 states and UTs.
