Beware of fake online ticket refunds: IRCTC issues warning
As fake advertisements and scams regarding online ticket refunds are being increased, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has issued a warning to the general public.
Increasingly, scammers exploit users by posing as IRCTC representatives through fraudulent Google ads.
Scammers have been conducting fraudulent activities through Google ads, offering assistance with ticket refunds.
IRCTC has clarified that it never requests personal banking details from users or requires the installation of remote control applications such as Anydesk or TeamViewer. This cautionary notice aims to alert users to the rising trend of online financial scams.
Many individuals are at risk of being defrauded under the guise of ticket refunds. Scammers often obtain confidential information by masquerading as the official IRCTC website.
Users searching for ticket refunds on Google may be directed to fake IRCTC websites that solicit their personal and banking details. Recently, IRCTC issued a warning through social media channels, advising users to be aware of scams.
It also urges users not to search customer care numbers over the net to complain about issues. Thus, they can avoid becoming prey to fraudsters.
Many IRCTC users book tickets online so they use the website ticket bookings. In the event of a train cancellation or a change in travel date, the platform provides a refund process.
IRCTC has a secure system for this, which involves contacting them through their official website or app, or by emailing and calling their official support number.
IRCTC disclosed essential contact details for obtaining ticket refunds, in its security memo. These include the ‘Contact Us’ section on the IRCTC website or app, emailing at the given ID or calling the official support number 14646. Users should rely only on these official channels to avoid scams.
By following these guidelines, users can ensure they are dealing with genuine IRCTC representatives and avoid the pitfalls of fraudulent schemes.
IRCTC’s proactive measures and public awareness campaigns aim to protect users from financial scams and ensure a safe online experience.
