Better way to Tackle Rail Crimes | Fusion - WeRIndia

Crimes that occur in rails generally are tougher to deal with because of jurisdictional problems. The government proposed a new system to deal with these problems efficiently. The new proposed method is to create an option of online registration of FIRs. The government wants to ensure that there is seamless security in this transportation which is one of the common targets for Maoists and terrorists.

In order to increase security in trains, the government is allocating two berths on each side of the coaches to ex-army personnel. The home minister Rajnath Singh has stated that he has found that there were some complexities involved in the security system of railway security system which needs to be looked into.

He stated that FIRs can be registered online and they can be referred by the state concerned for investigations to be expedited. The railway minister Suresh Prabhu has also favoured the changes in law to ensure better policing of railway premises. However, the move is being opposed the states.

In order to ensure this seamless security, the government is involving agencies like Government Reserve Policies (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and state police.
