Bengal Gov. orders for free COVID-19 treatment in private hospitals
In the wake of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state, the West Bengal government has directed private hospitals to provide free treatment to patients. The government will reimburse the cost of the treatment as per the approved rates and package.
The order states that private hospitals cannot deny COVD-ID-19 patients as referred by the state government.
Besides, all private hospitals should have to display a notice that reads the treatment to the patients is completely free and the entire cost will be borne by the government of West Bengal.
As per the latest data of the government, the total COVID-19 cases are 456 while 15 people have died due to this.
Four districts – Kolkata, Howrah, East Midnapore and North 24 Parganas are in the red zone. Nine districts are under the green zone while 11 are in the orange zone.
The government also announced a new scheme Prachesta to the daily wage labourers as they lost their livelihood. The scheme will be effective from April 15 to May 15, 2020.
As per the new scheme, these labourers will be given ₹1,000 per month by the government. The permanent residents of the state and the daily wagers who lost their employment are eligible to benefit from this scheme.
All eligible candidates will have to furnish their details in an application form to be submitted to District Magistrate, District Commissioner or KMC (Kolkata Municipal corporation) areas.
The authorities are advised to make necessary arrangements and process these applications. While the District Magistrates will process through BDO and SDO in rural and urban areas, the KMC commissioner will process in the KMC area.
The money will be directly deposited to bank accounts of the beneficiaries through net banking.
In addition to that, the government also decided to keep ration shops open from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon and 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. starting from April 24 to May 31, 2020.
