17 soldiers killed in terror attack

A long battle took place between Indian Army soldiers and four militants who attacked the Army fatigues. The militants were neutralized after a long fight. In this attack by terrorists, 17 jawans lost their lives. 18 more have been admitted to hospital with serious injuries.

According to a source within the Intelligence, the fidayeen attack has been carried out by Hizbul Mujahideen. They are backed by Pakistan’s Inter Service Intelligence (ISI).

An official statement has been released by the Indian army regarding this incident. The said that during the early hours of 18 September 2016, terrorists who were heavily armed attacked the rear administrative base of a unit at Uri, Kashmir.

They said that the counter action by the army led to the elimination of four terrorists. Immediately after the attack, the army started combing operations.


In the administrative base, there were many troops who were turning over after their tour of duty. They were stationed in tents and temporary shelters. The tents caught fire which resulted in heavy casualties.

The army announced that they salute for the brave sacrifice of the 17 soldiers who were martyred in the operation.

Due to this high level casualty, a high alert was issued in Jammu and Kashmir. As many people know, the state has been in a state of violence and curfew since the last 74 days.

The surprise attack is said to be carried out by Pakistan-based terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. Burhan Wani, who is the most popular member of it, died in an encounter in July.

According to some new sources, the attack was done on purpose to hamper with the peace process carried out by Indian authorities after the death of Burhan Wani. This attack had the same the modus operandi as the Pathankot attack. In that attack, seven army men were martyred.
