Foods that can increase thyroid problems
The thyroid gland is an important hormone producing gland. It is located in the neck. The hormone thyroxin helps in controlling the body’s temperature, weight and metabolism. Having thyroid problems can mess up these factors of your body. Here are some foods which can increase thyroid problems.
Broccoli
Broccoli, cabbages, and other cruciferous vegetables are very important to avoid for people with low thyroid. People with iodine deficiency hypothyroidism should not consume cruciferous vegetables.
Wheat, Rye And Barley
These foods and others that contain gluten should be avoided if you have thyroid problems. Make sure the bread you purchase is free from gluten. When buying products, ensure that they are gluten free. Grains such as wheat, rye, and barley contain gluten.
Fast food
Fast food items are full of bad fats. These fats can decrease the thyroid gland’s ability to produce hormones. Control consumption of fried foods and processed foods.
Mayonnaise and butter
These foods are thyroid inhibiting foods and they should be avoided as much as possible. Other fatty foods can also reduce the hormone producing ability of thyroid gland.
Sweet potato and corn
Foods such as corn, flax, lima beans, and sweet potato contain sulfur. Consuming them can affect the iodine uptake by the thyroid gland.
