Smoking is one of the bad habits that affects your eyesight. It increases the risk of cataract, macular degeneration, glaucoma, optic nerve damage, dry eye syndrome and diabetic retinopathy.

Using electronic devices at night strains your eyes and leads to watery eyes. Exposure to blue light of the screens also disrupts your sleep cycle which ultimately lead to several health hazards like twitching of eyes, popped eye vessels and even Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy.

Not wearing sunglasses when you are going out on sunny days will increase the risk of exposure to UV rays and ultimately to photokeratitis. Though this does not damage your eye permanently, you might have to suffer certain symptoms like excessive tearing, red eyes and oversensitivity to light.

If you are using contact lenses, then you should remove them before going to bed. If you forget and sleep with your lenses, then you may get corneal infection. Also, you should properly clean them before wearing them.

Not eating sufficient vegetables that protect eyes is another bad habit that might affect your eye health. Add vegetables that are loaded with vitamin A, C and E, and minerals like zinc to your diet.

Overusing over the counter eye drops may worsen your eye condition. So, always take doctor prescription before using them for dry eyes, redness in the eyes or any such condition.

Do not rub your eyes harshly as it may scratch and distort your cornea.

Beware of your eye makeup products like eyeliner, eye creams etc. as they may cause itching and infections. Also do not hesitate to throw away expired products or the products that are being used for three or four months.
