Prime Minister’s Research Fellows Scheme
If you have finished your B.Tech or integrated M.Tech from IISC / IIT / NIT / IISER / IIITs with a good percentage and want to pursue Ph.D. in IITs and IISC, then here is a good opportunity from government.
You will get Fellowship of not less than ₹70,000 each month for a period of five years from the central government. In addition to that, research grant of ₹2 lakh per anum will be sanctioned for five years.
Earlier in this month, the Union Cabinet approved a Prime Minister’s Research Fellows Scheme. An amount of ₹1650 crore was allocated for this scheme for a period of seven years starting from 2018-19.
Under this scheme, a maximum of 3,000 meritorious students will be selected from IISC, IITs, NITs, IIITs and IISERs in three batches beginning from 2018-19.
They will be given direct admission to Ph.D in IITs and IISC to pursue research in science and technology.
Their research fellowship for the five years will be as follows: For the first two years they will receive ₹70,000. It is ₹75,000 in the third year and they will receive ₹80,000 for the last two years.
Besides, they will be given a research grant of ₹2 lakh each year to present their research papers in international conferences and seminars.
The applicants of this programmes should have finished the specified academic qualification in the last five years. The required CGPA is 8 to apply for this.
Even the final year students of B.Tech are eligible to apply for scheme.
Applicants will be selected though a two stage rigorous procedure by the Selection Committee.
Not just that, even after joining, the Fellows should have to meet the prescribed guidelines.
At the time of joining the programme, each Fellow will be given certain goals to be achieved each year.
Their fellowship will be renewed only after the successful achievement of the goals.
