PM Internship Scheme empowers Indian youth

The PM Internship Scheme is a transformative initiative by the Government of India, connecting young individuals with top industry experiences through internships in India’s leading 500 companies.

Intending to offer one crore internships over the next five years, this program enables youth to develop essential skills, build networks, and gain exposure across diverse industries.

Each intern will engage in a genuine job environment for up to a year, helping them acquire practical knowledge and improve their career prospects.

Interns under this scheme receive monthly financial assistance of ₹5,000, with ₹500 contributed by partner companies based on attendance and conduct, and ₹4,500 provided by the government through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to an Aadhaar-linked bank account.

In addition, interns receive a one-time grant of ₹6,000 at the start of their internship to cover incidental costs.

The government covers insurance premiums for Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana. Thus, they offer essential safety benefits to each intern.

Partner companies may also provide additional support or accident coverage.

Eligible applicants must be between 21 to 24 years old and possess at least an SSC, HSC, ITI certification, Polytechnic diploma, or bachelor’s degree in fields like BA, B.Sc, or B.Com.

However, those engaged in full-time employment or education, those from elite institutions, or those with professional or master’s degrees are ineligible.

The applicant’s family income must be below ₹8 lakh annually, and no family member should be a regular government employee.

The official portal provides all the necessary details and resources for application.

The scheme is financially beneficial to youth. At the same time, it also supports companies in fulfilling Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) requirements by allowing them to cover up to 5% of internship-related administrative costs from CSR funds.

Through this initiative, the PM Internship Scheme is set to empower India’s youth with valuable skills, experience, and a pathway to a brighter future.
