MNRE Renewable Energy Quiz 2026: Check Eligibility, dates & prizes

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, in collaboration with the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI), is organising the National Renewable Energy Quiz 2026 – “RE-Think Beyond Energy” for students and young professionals.

The contest is part of the outreach activities for the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo (BRESE) 2026, which is scheduled to take place in New Delhi later this year.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has also asked universities and colleges to share information about the quiz with students.

The quiz is aimed at increasing awareness among young people about renewable energy, climate change, sustainability and India’s clean energy transition.


The National Renewable Energy Quiz 2026 has separate categories for college students, school students and young professionals.

For the college category, participants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Participants must be full-time college students.
  • Students must be 17 to 25 years old.
  • Participation is in teams of two members.
  • Both members of the team must be from the same college.
  • The participating team will represent its college in the competition.

The contest also includes a category for school students studying in Classes 9 to 12 and a category for young professionals up to 30 years of age.

After registration, college teams will be divided into five zones, North, West, South, East and North East.

The Regional Round will be conducted online on September 22, 23 and 24, 2026. Three teams from each region will qualify for the next stage.

The Grand Final for the college category will take place on November 5, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, as part of the BRESE 2026 event.

The theme of the 2026 contest is “Renewable Energy for a Viksit Bharat.”

The quiz will feature easy and non-technical questions, allowing students from different academic backgrounds to participate.

Questions can cover areas such as:

  • Solar energy and rooftop solar
  • Solar parks
  • Wind energy
  • Hydropower
  • Bioenergy
  • Green hydrogen
  • Battery energy storage
  • Floating solar
  • Agrivoltaics
  • Waste-to-energy
  • India’s climate and clean-energy goals
  • Government initiatives such as PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, PM-KUSUM and the National Green Hydrogen Mission

Participants in the college category can compete for cash prizes:

  • First prize: ₹1,00,000
  • Second prize: ₹60,000
  • Third prize: ₹40,000

Qualifying teams and finalists will also receive certificates.

The RE-Think Beyond Energy quiz is intended to allow students and young professionals to build awareness of renewable energy technologies, government initiatives and the role of clean energy in India’s development.
