A leader must be aware of his personality traits and those of his team members to understand which leadership style will be most effective.

Best players in a team do not guarantee success without a great coach, similarly, work teams may not function effectively if leaders do not follow an appropriate leadership strategy.

A common mistake especially a lot of new leaders make is to copy well know leaders. Remember, each situation is unique and so are the followers. A leadership style which may be suited to a well-known leader may not be appropriate for your team.


Make no mistake here – do not try and imitate other leaders. A leader must keep enhancing his leadership skills.

While on the job experience matters a lot, getting enrolled into leadership courses after detailed evaluation of the program and feedback of the participants will help implementing a leadership style more effectively.

Never be afraid of trying new approach to solve a work problem or address a conflicting situation. It is quite a possibility that a leader adopts a style that is not by the book.

Strategic Leadership Style

The strategic leader fills the gap between the need for new possibility and the need for practicality by providing a prescriptive set of habits. A strategically focused leader develops and executes a practical strategy for the company.

Strategic leadership is one that involves a leader who is essentially the head of an organization. The strategic leader is not limited to those at the top of the organization.

It is geared to a wider audience at all levels who want to create a high-performance life, team or organization.

 

Team leadership

Team leadership provides a strong sense of purpose and direction. It’s not an easy task to manage the team. There may be different personalities in team.

Every member come with different thoughts, ideas. For a leader, it’s very important to know each and every team member very well.

Team leadership involves the creation of a vivid picture of its future, where it is heading and what it will stand for.

A laissez-faire leader

A laissez-faire leader lacks direct supervision of employees and fails to provide regular feedback to those under his supervision. Highly experienced and trained employees requiring little supervision fall under the laissez-faire leadership style.

This leadership gives authority to employees. According to departments or subordinates are allowed to work as they choose with minimal or no interference. .

The laissez-faire style produces no leadership or supervision efforts from managers, which can lead to poor production, lack of control and increasing costs.

Visionary Leadership

This form of leadership involves leaders who recognize that the methods, steps and processes of leadership are all obtained through people. Most great and successful leaders have the aspects of vision in them.

However, those who are highly visionary are the ones considered to be exhibiting visionary leadership. Outstanding leaders will always transform their visions into realities.

Transactional Leadership

Managers and team members set predetermined goals together, and employees agree to follow the direction and leadership of the manager to accomplish those goals.

The manager possesses power to review results and train or correct employees when team members fail to meet goals. Employees receive rewards, such as bonuses, when they accomplish goals.

It is also the leadership that involves an exchange process, whereby followers get immediate, tangible rewards for carrying out the leader’s orders. Transactional leadership can sound rather basic, with its focus on exchange.
