Vehicle owners’ trouble amid truck drivers’ protest
As a nationwide strike by commercial vehicle drivers intensifies, fuel scarcity becomes the focal point, gripping hill stations and remote areas in its clutches.
The protest against the recently enacted hit-and-run law has led to about 2,000 petrol pumps running dry, predominantly in the western and northern regions of India.
In major cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, and other regions across the country, petrol pumps remain open, but the supplies to smaller towns are dwindling.
The discontent among truckers stems from the stringent hit-and-run provision, imposing a 10-year jail term or a fine of ₹7 lakhs, a sharp contrast to the previous maximum penalty of 2 years under the Indian Penal Code.
As the strike enters its second day, chaos ensues, with stranded oil tankers exacerbating the fuel crisis.
Drivers, either protesting the new law or fearing reprisals, refuse to operate, leaving queues at petrol pumps stretching for hours.
Amid this pandemonium, a unique group remains unfazed – Electric Vehicle (EV) owners.
While the majority anxiously waits for fuel, EV owners find themselves sipping on electricity, watching the petrol pump drama unfold like a blockbuster movie.
With memes circulating on social media capturing the delight of EV owners amidst the chaos, a lighthearted touch is added to the situation.
Prolonged queues and uncertain fuel availability have inadvertently become an advertisement for the reliability of electric vehicles.
In the midst of this fuel frenzy, as petrol pump dramas unfold, EV owners stand as silent spectators, appreciating the benefits of their eco-friendly choice.
The strike’s impact on conventional fuel users contrasts sharply with the uninterrupted journeys of EV owners, highlighting the resilience and convenience of electric vehicles in the face of fuel shortages.
As the nation grapples with the repercussions of the protest, EV owners find themselves in a unique position of both environmental and practical advantage, turning the chaos into an unexpected opportunity for electric mobility to shine.
