Meet Kiran Kurmawar, a remarkable Maharashtra woman who defied all odds to pursue her dreams.

Kiran earns a living by driving a taxi in tribal areas, overcoming the challenges posed by Naxal violence in her hometown, Reguntha village, in the Gadchiroli district.

Despite the difficult circumstances, she aspires to study abroad and is about to embark on a life-changing journey to the UK.

Kiran’s dedication and hard work have paid off, as she has been awarded a scholarship worth ₹40 lakhs for a one-year course in International Marketing Management at the University of Leeds.

Her ultimate goal is to secure a job in the UK for two years before returning to her hometown, where she plans to contribute to her community.

With a master’s degree in Economics from Osmania University, Hyderabad, Kiran initially drove taxi to support herself and her family in the financially constrained region.

Overcoming various challenges, including the lack of adequate transportation and underdevelopment in her area, she persevered and now owns three taxis.

Facing tough circumstances at the age of 27, Kiran’s determination and the firm support of her family played a vital role in her journey. Despite the obstacles, she remained focused on her education, encouraged by her family to pursue her dreams.

After moving to Delhi in search of a job, Kiran had to return home urgently when her father met with an accident, as there was no one else to care for the family.

This setback did not deter her spirit, and she took the brave step of seeking financial assistance for her higher education expenses from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai.

With her friend’s help, Kiran arranged a meeting with the Chief Minister at Vidhan Bhawan.

Her sincere appeal caught the Chief Minister’s attention, and he promptly took action by reaching out to the Secretary of the Social Welfare Department, Sumant Bhange, through WhatsApp.

Now, with her determination and the support of the Chief Minister, Kiran’s dream of studying abroad is becoming a reality.

The scholarship money will soon be provided to her, paving the way for her journey to the UK to pursue higher education in International Marketing Management.
