PM Modi inaugurates the first greenfield airport in Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday inaugurated Gujarat’s first Greenfield Airport, the Hirasar Greenfield International Airport. He dedicated it to the nation.

The Prime Minister inaugurated this new airport, along with several other key projects worth over ₹860 crore.

Spanning across a vast area of 2,500 acres, the Hirasar Greenfield Airport has been developed at a cost of ₹1,405 crore.

It is strategically located approximately 30 km from Rajkot and is envisioned to become a major transportation hub for international travellers from the state.

Among its salient features, the airport boasts a well-designed 3040-meter-long and 45-meter-wide runway. With this, it can accommodate up to 14 planes simultaneously.

The terminal building complies with GRIHA-4 rules and incorporates various sustainability features. These include a double-insulated roofing system, LED lighting, skylights, and more.

Besides, the airport has a solar power system, a green belt, and a rainwater harvesting system. Thus, it ensures sustainability.

Additionally, it has various facilities, including one parallel half taxi-way, a rapid exit taxi track, an interim terminal building, and cargo hangars.

The strategic location of the airport on the Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway is expected to streamline logistics for various industries.

Furthermore, the design of the airport’s terminal draws inspiration from Rajkot’s cultural vibrancy. It showcases local art forms such as Lippan art and Dandiya dance through its dynamic external façade and splendid interiors.

This design approach highlights the rich cultural heritage of the Kathiawar region.

The Airport is poised to significantly impact the local automobile industry in Rajkot. In addition, it aims to boost trade, tourism, education, and industrial sectors throughout Gujarat.

This new greenfield airport was constructed through a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Airports Authority of India and the Civil Aviation Department of the Government of Gujarat.

The foundation stone for the airport was laid by Prime Minister Modi himself in October 2017 in Chotila, Gujarat, considering the proximity and ease of travel from Rajkot.

As Prime Minister Modi dedicates the Hirasar Greenfield International Airport to the nation, it marks a momentous step in enhancing Gujarat’s aviation infrastructure and bolstering connectivity.

With its state-of-the-art facilities and sustainable design, the airport is poised to be a symbol of progress and development.

In addition, it reflects the cultural glory of the Kathiawar region while catalyzing economic growth in the state.
