IIT-M develops the indigenous mobile operating system
As part of Atmanirbhar Bharat, many institutes in the country are trying to focus on developing indigenous solutions to various problems.
Recently, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) developed an indigenous mobile operating system, BharOS.
JandK Operations Private Limited (JandKops) developed the BharOS. This non-profit organization was established by IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation.
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) supports the foundation financially. The BharOS operating system is useful for mobile phone users in India.
Users can get access to trusted apps from Private App Store Services (PASS). The platform has a list of secure apps. While listing them, it checks thoroughly and ensures that these apps are secure to be used by mobile phone users.
In other words, all apps should meet the prescribed security and privacy standards, for listing on the platform.
In this way, BharOS ensures the safe installation of apps and their security.
The operating system also has a remarkable feature, No Default Apps (NDA). It allows users to opt for their desired apps by avoiding the usage of apps they do not trust. In addition, users will have more control over the permissions asked by the apps on their mobile devices.
They will have the option of allowing only trusted apps to access data on their device. They can even choose to allow them to access certain features. Also, BharOS provides ‘Native Over The Air’ (NOTA) updates to keep the devices secure by automatically updating the system.
Currently, the operating system is available to organizations that have strict privacy and security requirements and to those that handle sensitive or crucial information.
The developers of BharOS say that the operating system revolutionizes the security and privacy of mobile devices. It offers more control and flexibility to users and fulfils their needs.
